How to rejoin the BBW dating scene

If you've been out of the curvy dating world for a while, getting back into it could be an intimate BBW date. Technology and the fast-changing culture of BBW dating can make you feel like you're entering a completely new world. But despite changing contact information, the ground rules for contacting another plus size people remain fairly stable. A few reminders:

1.Talk, don't text.

Before you drive across town to meet someone for coffee, it's worth having a little conversation. For many, that means texting. I think it's a waste of time. Giving someone a few one-liners and emoticons doesn't tell you much about them because you can't experience their facial expressions, vocal changes or reactions in real time. Make a phone call and you'll get at least two of these things - and you don't have to leave home.

2.But be sure to leave the house.

Another problem with texting is that many chubby people are addicted to their portable flirting devices, causing meetings to be delayed for weeks or even months. This back-and-forth is fun, and they don't want to risk disappointment by having face-to-face conversations. The problem is, when all you have to do is make those types of balloons, your brain fills in the blanks. You will create fantasy versions of each other - which greatly increases the chances that you will be disappointed. Reduce the risk by meeting before you become emotionally attracted.

3.Make things easy.

Don't try to impress a first curvy date by booking a fancy French restaurant or buying expensive tickets to a play or concert. Find a place that is convenient for both of you. Sure, a coffee shop or bar is a great way to de-stress, but you can also ask your BBW date to do something you'd like to do with you - take your dog for a walk in the park or go to a nearby market.

4.But try.

Even if your chubby date is casual, you need to be on your best behavior. There's nothing more frustrating than a BBW hookup trying to clean out the garage with all the trimmings. A nice button-down shirt is as comfortable as a sweatshirt, but it conveys a much better message.

That is to say, "I'm a plus size people who respects myself and you," rather than "I've given up and I don't want to try any more."
